To the 1/4"-20 end, you can secure various accessories such as monitors. Or you can also secure the 1/4"-20 end to camera cages so you can attach an arm to the ball head. A slotted hole towards the top lets you tighten the ball head firmly to your cage by running an Allen key through the hole.
